Economics of the LNG Market

When examining LNG economics the following key areas emerge as important. The cost of producing the LNG, terminal charges and shipping costs, amongst various others. However prior to examining these areas it is useful to examine the reason LNG exists in the market.

Natural gas as a source of energy can be found throughout the world in abundance, the main problem has often been its remoteness to markets. This remoteness to market created an opening for LNG in the marketplace, providing the opportunity to transport gas from these remote locations to market. LNG now thrives in remote markets such as Japan and Korea where energy resources are far away. It is a product that allows large quantities of energy to be transported efficiently over long distances to isolated markets.
