 February 2009

Issue #48

Welcome to the February issue of MZINE
our free monthly newsletter!

After four years of producing and editing the MZINE it is time for me (Paul) to move on. Over the next few months I will be developing an exciting new product for MJMEnergy and you will be the first to know about it when it becomes available.

So, I am happy to hand the MZINE over to Tom Wolstenholme, who, as you already know, joined us in September. He will no doubt bring some fresh new ideas and promotions for you.

Our training date calendar for the 2009 public courses can be found here, and I have listed the first few below.

You will also find that Derek has been up to his old tricks again with his interesting take on the UK pre-budget report. (See the cartoon below)

How Do You Store Electricity?

Why do the batteries always run out?!

When I was a child, my parents decided that caravanning holidays were the thing of the future!  We bought a caravan and, come the school holidays, all piled in and were free to stop off at any destination which took our fancy.

The one issue which always proved to be our Achilles heel, however, was the need for an electric hook-up to re-charge the caravan leisure battery before it ran flat and left us without lighting, without a fully operational fridge and without running water (since we were dependant on an electrical water pump).  Despite the best of intentions to find a hook-up point, numerous evening meals on holidays were spent huddled around a torchlight!

The course is ideal as an introduction for new entrants to utility companies, gas producers and power generators, as well as for lawyers and other firms needing to understand energy markets.
17th-18th March EU Gas Markets The EU gas markets course provides a review of gas markets across Europe, examining the practical extent of liberalisation, and the challenges and changes facing these markets. The course reviews the likely impact of further liberalisation proposals and changing market dynamics, and assesses the strategy of key players in the European gas market.
19th-20th March EU Electricity Markets The EU electricity markets course provides a review of power markets across Europe, examining the practical extent of liberalisation, and the challenges and changes facing these markets. The course reviews the likely impact of further liberalisation proposals and changing market dynamics, and assesses the strategy of key players in the European energy market.
19th March Global LNG The LNG business is expanding at an unprecedented rate as buyers seek alternative sources of supply to meet increasing natural gas demand and replace declining domestic production. A record number of new liquefaction and regasification terminals are under construction or being planned. Rapidly rising construction costs are creating new challenges for liquefaction projects and developers of regasification terminals are finding it difficult to secure long-term supplies.
